By Roy Heilman | In the latest chapter of comprehensive aquatic ecosystem management, Minnesota DNR is moving toward establishing harvest limits for native rough fish. These particular species have long been subjected to unlimited harvest. If that changes, they will join gar, whitefish species, and burbot, which were assigned limits in recent years.
As part of the rulemaking process, the DNR is currently soliciting public input on the proposed change. There is an official avenue for input laid out on their website.
Folks are already leaving their unofficial input all over social media. Quite predictably, the range of comments reveals how deeply-held ideas wrongly inform their opinion of any new limits on native rough fish.
